Summer Doubles League PDF Print E-mail

Registration is closed for Summer 2010.
Come back next year!

Second City Tennis offers a co-ed summer doubles league that plays on clay courts.  This is a social league and scores are not recorded.  You will sign up as an individual, not as a team and you will normally play with different partners each week.

Summer Doubles program details:
  • League matches are played on Sunday evenings from 4:00 - 8:00pm, playing 4pm-6pm or 6pm-8pm, at the Diversey courts (2800 N. Lake Shore @ Diversey).
  • Matches run end of May/beginning of June to middle of September.
  • Generally, each player will have five scheduled days over the 13 week season. In the event that you cannot play on a scheduled day, you will need to find a sub from the people not playing in your group. If you know that you will be out of town for one of the scheduled days, try in advance to switch with another player.
  • Player fee is $65/per person which includes balls and court time. Since matches are on clay courts, all players must wear real tennis shoes (running shoes and cross-trainers are not permitted).
  • Program is limited to 60 players.
  • Season ending BBQ to be held in September.

This year, she'll only play one, though this could be an even more effective version of Venus Williams than came to Flushing Meadows in 2009. Clijsters and Williams each won their quarterfinal matches Tuesday to set up a marquee semifinal -- the No.

  • Nadal, Verdasco in all-Spanish quarters (AP) 7 Sep 2010 | 11:11 pm

Rafael Nadal won his 18th consecutive Grand Slam match by beating fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 Wednesday in the fourth round of the U.S. Open. The top-seeded Nadal saved all four break points he faced against Lopez and has erased all 13 he's had to deal with this year in New York.

  • Defending champ Clijsters reaches semis (AP) 7 Sep 2010 | 9:48 pm

Clijsters' was anything but easy. Struggling with her serve, shaky off both arms and bothered by the wind, defending champion Kim Clijsters barely got past French Open runner-up Sam Stosur of Australia 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in the quarterfinals Tuesday night. "After the match, I was like, 'How did I win this?' I didn't feel like I was playing well; Sam is a good player," Clijsters...
